The calves are cared for in the nursery until they reach about 120 pounds (usually about four weeks.) They then move to our facility located near Rosedale, Oklahoma. On this ranch, the calves are gradually moved from the sheltered environment of the calf nursery to the outside world. A system of pens and paddocks on lush Bermuda grass pastures are home to the calves until they reach a weight of about 450 pounds. At this weight, the calves are large enough to move to our ranch near Wanette, Oklahoma.

At any time during the year, you can find about 3600 heifers here on the Wanette Farm. These future members of our milking herd grow to about 850 pounds before moving to our ranch near Ada, Oklahoma. Located in the beautiful rolling hills of southeastern Oklahoma, the Bermuda grass pastures, thousands of trees and abundant water make the Ada Ranch an ideal setting for the heifers to continue to grow to maturity. The heifers are bred at Ada and stay on the ranch until about 30 days before they are ready to have their calves. They then return to Tuttle and the cycle begins again.

Braum's 260,000 square foot Processing Plant features the most modern, up-to-date equipment available. The raw milk is brought from the milk barn to the plant and stored and kept cool in huge stainless steel silo tanks. From the silo tanks, the milk is sent to our processing room where it is pasteurized, standardized, homogenized and vacuum-processed.

Our vacuum processing system makes Braum's unique in the dairy business. Using a 60 foot tall giant piece of processing equipment called a Mechanical Vapor Recompressor (MVR) we can literally take water out of the milk. Removing part of the milks natural water condenses or concentrates the milk automatically raising the amount of nutrients like calcium, and protein by up to 50 percent! Braum's Fat Free Milk has so much protein and calcium, in fact, that we can label our milk as being an "Excellent Source of Calcium and Protein!" That's important, too, because your body uses calcium, protein and the seven other nutrients found in milk to keep your bones and teeth strong, to help your heart beat and muscles contract (just to name a few). Drinking Braum's Fat Free and Low-fat milk with 50% more calcium is important ...at any age... because building strong bones, especially while you're young, is the best prevention against osteoporosis, a disease that causes your bones to become thin and weak. Bones that are weakened by osteoporosis are more easily broken.
