Spring Break is here and summer is not too far off either! Although we always recommend making a Braum’s pit stop on your road trip, if you are going where there are no Braum’s, we have some easy, kid-friendly recipes you can make to take with you on your journey!
These snacks are a breeze to whip together and will please even the pickiest eaters in your family. Better yet? You can stop by and get all your snack supplies at Braum’s Fresh Market.
Before Your Trip – Snack Planning
A little planning goes a long way on a road trip and the same goes for snacks. In the days leading up to your trip, locate a large snack bag or cooler that can keep food cool and dry (We offer one in our Fresh Market). Select a bag that has side pockets, plenty of storage, and will fit comfortably on a seat or the floor of your car.
To keep organized, use plastic food storage containers and label them for each child (or parent) they’re intended for. Snacks that are for sharing can go in larger containers or can be placed in Ziploc bags for portioning.
Pack the snack bag in a convenient spot in your car. You don’t want to have unpack your trunk every time your kids get hungry. Be sure to keep wet wipes, paper towels, and hand sanitizer in the bag for mealtime.
Tortilla Sandwich Wheels
When kids get hungry, the “Are we there yet?!” alarm starts sounding. Satisfy their grumbling tummies with protein-packed tortilla sandwich pinwheels. These customizable and fun alternatives to sandwiches are easy to pack and eat in the car. Try a sweet peanut butter and jelly version or a savory ham and cheese!
Ingredients
Ham and Cheese Wheels
1 ten-inch flour tortilla
2 to 4 Colby Jack cheese slices
3 deli ham or turkey slices
Mustard (optional)
Mayonnaise (optional)
Braum’s French Onion Dip (optional)
Directions
Lay one tortilla down on a plate or cutting board. Spread a thin layer of mustard, mayo, or Braum’s French Onion Dip on the tortilla, if desired.
Place two to four slices of cheese on tortilla. Place ham or turkey slices on top of cheese.
Roll the tortilla tightly from one end to the other.
With a sharp knife, slice the rolled tortilla into one-and-a-half-inch pinwheel slices.
Place pinwheels into a plastic container and pack into a cooler or snack bag with ice packs.
Crunchy Car Trail Mix
What is it about road trips that make crunchy snacks so appealing? Lucky for you, we have a trail mix that’s a great snack for kids and the adults behind the wheel. Caution – this mix is hard to put down.

Ingredients
1 container Braum’s Plain Greek Yogurt (24 oz.)
4 tablespoons chunky or smooth peanut butter
2 to 3 tablespoons honey

In Memoriam of W. H. (Bill) Braum, Founder of Braum’s Ice Cream and Dairy Stores
Oklahoma
City, Okla. – William Henry (Bill) Braum, founder of Braum’s Ice Cream
and Dairy Stores, passed away at his home located on the Tuttle, OK Farm
with his family by his side on Monday, March 23. He was 92.
Bill Braum’s expertise and roots in the processing and marketing of dairy products made him a true innovator. Braum gave real meaning to the term “vertical integration.” He was a dairyman, farmer, processor, manufacturer, and retailer of dairy products.
Bill Braum was born in Newton, Kansas in 1928, and raised in Emporia, Kansas. As a young boy, he began his working career by helping his father, Henry, in the family business – a small butter and milk processing plant in Emporia. In the 1930s, Henry added ice-cream processing to the operation.
Original Braum Farm in Emporia, KS
After
graduating from the University of Kansas in 1949 with a B.S. in
Business Administration, Bill went to work full time for his father. He also met and married his wife, Mary, that year. Three years later, Bill and his father decided to specialize in retail stores and sold the wholesale part of the business. Following that, they developed a chain of retail ice cream stores in Kansas called “Peter Pan Ice Cream.”
Peter Pan Ice Cream
In 1957, Bill’s father sold him the business. Within ten years, Bill built the business to 61 stores. In 1967, a wholesale company offered a price he couldn’t refuse for the retail stores, and he took it. Bill kept the processing plant, farm, and dairy herd.
Bill immediately began building stores in Oklahoma under the name “Braum’s Ice Cream and Dairy Stores,” opening 22 stores in 1968.
By 1971, there were 40 stores, and a new plant built in Oklahoma City, and the family moved to Oklahoma City.
In 1975, Bill moved the Braum dairy herd from Emporia to its new home located in Tuttle, Oklahoma. It was considered the largest modern-day cattle drive.
Original Model A Braum’s Store
Now, the Tuttle farm consists of a bakery, a dairy, processing plant, a milking facility, and a few thousand baby calves. The Braum family also operates a second milking operation on the Braum Farm located on the border of Shattuck, Oklahoma and Follett, Texas.
Throughout the years, Bill Braum has become known as a pioneer in “vertical integration.”
From the ground up, Braum’s consistently controls every aspect of the operation, including farming, manufacturing, retailing, trucking, advertising, and real estate.
All of his hard work was to provide the very best product at the very best price to his customers.
Bill had three families that he loved and cherished; the family he had with Mary, his wife of 71 years; the family of all the Braum’s workers that brought him so much happiness; and his final family, all the customers that loved his products and understood how hard he worked to bring them the best products at the best values. These are the three families Bill Braum loved.
OKLAHOMA CITY – For over 50 years, Braum’s Dairy has been producing farm-fresh milk and dairy items sold in their stores. Now, the Braum family is taking it a step further by rolling out a new line of A2 fresh milk that may have added health benefits and is easier on digestion for some people.
Today, the Braum Family Farm is proud to be home to the largest A2 dairy herd in the United States. This new venture did not happen overnight. It has taken over 12 years to build the A2 herd. With an established A2 herd, Braum’s is now producing its own exclusive line of A2 fresh dairy milk and dairy products sold only at Braum’s stores.
What is A2 fresh milk you ask? And how does it have added health benefits for some?
What Makes A2 Fresh Milk Different:
Two major protein groups, casein and whey, are present in cow’s milk. Casein makes up about 30 percent of the proteins in cow’s milk. There are two forms of casein: A1 and A2.
Cattle produce A1 or A2, depending on their genetic makeup. Milk from many of the common breeds of dairy cattle is a mixture of A1 and A2 proteins.
According to some preliminary research, each of these types of protein may have different effects on the body. Some studies have found, for instance, that A1 milk may cause more internal inflammation than A2 varieties.
Most regular milk comes from cows that produce both A1 and A2 proteins. Cows with only an A2 gene produce A2 milk, which may be easier on digestion and help some avoid discomfort.
Braum’s A2 fresh milk still has the same great taste that our customers have come to love over the years. It is also still loaded with calcium and protein thanks to the unique way that we process our milk using the mechanical vapor recompression evaporator to eliminate more water giving you richer, creamier milk. The difference now is that we have a dedicated A2 herd that is genetically tested for the A2 gene to ensure that you are only getting A2 milk with no A1.
Braum’s has two large dairy herds, one in Follett, TX and one in Tuttle, OK. Both herds are made up of just cows that produce only A2 fresh milk, which means that all of our dairy products are made with A2 fresh milk.
The A2 line consists of whole milk, reduced-fat (2%), fat-free, buttermilk and chocolate milk.
Also on the horizon, we will be releasing lactose-free reduced-fat (2%) A2 fresh milk.
About Braum’s
There are over 309 Braum’s stores in operation. All stores are located in a five-state area: Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas, Missouri and Arkansas.
Braum’s features an old-fashioned ice cream fountain along with a grill area for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Each store also has a Fresh Market area with more than 100 fresh meats, fruits, vegetables, and fresh-from-the-farm dairy products.
At Braum’s, we are committed to doing things better in every aspect of our operation. The Braum’s Dairy Farm in Tuttle, Oklahoma is one of the largest dairy operations in the world. Each day, we milk thousands of cows an hour, providing enough fresh raw milk for more than one million glasses! We are also the only major ice cream maker in the country to use milk from our own herd to make our ice cream. Because Braum’s milk comes from our private dairy herd, we know what’s in it. Braum’s dairy herd enjoys a 100% vegetarian diet grown right on our farm. No growth hormones or antibiotics are added.
Bill and Mary Braum opened their first Braum’s store in 1968. The company is still family-owned and operated.
KEY POINTS:
For some, A2 fresh milk is easier to digest. It does not have the A1 protein found in it like most regular milk.
Braum’s has the largest herd of A2 dairy cows in the United States.
Cows are genetically tested to ensure they only have the A2 gene.
Same great Braum’s taste you love with more health benefits.
Braum’s A2 fresh milk is 100% dairy milk that is packed with protein & calcium.
The fresh raw milk is transported to the Braum’s processing plant on our dairy farm, where we make all our dairy products. It takes less than 36 hours from the time the cow is milked until it arrives at your neighborhood store.
Thanks to the unique way we process our Milk, it is better for you than other grocery store brands with our low-fat milk varieties containing up to 50% more calcium, protein, and other essential vitamins and nutrients. Using a Mechanical Vapor Recompression Evaporator, we remove part of the milk’s natural water. This fortifies the milk naturally. Because it’s concentrated, it also tastes richer and thicker.
** Please note that A2 fresh milk still contains lactose (milk sugar) and milk proteins. So while some people cannot handle regular milk they may be able to tolerate A2 fresh milk. Those with true lactose intolerance or milk allergy may not tolerate it any better than regular milk. Check with your healthcare provider.

A current favorite is the Strawberry Blondie, AKA the perfect dessert for the indecisive. No longer must you choose between indulging in a blondie or a strawberry ice cream. You can now satisfy a craving for both tastes and textures in one cone. Because let’s face it: life–especially adulthood–is already chock-full of too many tough decisions, and dessert shouldn’t be one of them. Dessert should be simple.
We don’t know about you, but to us, strawberry ice cream tastes like summer. It tastes like being a kid again. It works like a time machine, transporting us to a more carefree era of our lives when our worst problem–a skinned knee from a tumble off our bicycle–could be solved with a single strawberry ice cream cone. It evokes sweet memories of sticky fingers and faces, stained blouses, and sunshine. It tastes like vacation. It tastes like joy.
Yes, the Strawberry Blondie can do all this and more. Don’t believe us? Try it for yourself! There are so many fun layers and flavors to this one thanks to the generous sprinkling of sweet caramel ribbon, chunks of strawberries, and blonde brownie bites, all woven seamlessly into our classic strawberry ice cream.
If you want to take it a step further, try it as a sundae. We top our freshly baked strawberry Bundt cakes with Strawberry Blondie ice cream, strawberry topping, whipped cream, a cherry, and sprinkles. It’s rich, creamy, and dreamy–everything you want in a sundae. Why not start a “Sundae Fun Day” tradition with your family this weekend?
It turns out blondies really do have more fun.
Have you tried our new flavors? Which one is your favorite? Let us know!

The countdown to home for the holidays has begun! Whether you’re traveling from the north, south, east, or west, Braum’s is the perfect stop along the way. In fact, many work Braum’s into their holiday traditions, making us their last stop out of town, or their first stop upon their return.
Amy Winn Cowdrey is one of those people with a heartwarming holiday tradition centered around a frosty treat.
“We usually try to get some hot chocolate ice cream to take home with us but we won’t have room this year, so we are planning on stocking up my mom’s fridge full of it to enjoy the week while we’re there!!!” she offered up on our Facebook page. “We love Braum’s and our wedding officiant even mentioned in our wedding that some of our favorite memories included ‘giving a significant amount of our business to Braum’s!’”
Kristine Bramwell has fond holiday memories as well.
“When we used to travel from Tulsa to Kansas City, we would stop on the way home to Tulsa to grab some ice cream for our freezer. … Those were the good ol’ days,” Bramwell chimed in on Facebook.
And it won’t be long before Betty Ann Darrell Harp has a Braum’s tradition of her own.
“I’m sure it will be a tradition, as soon as we get moved to Oklahoma,” she wrote on Facebook.
Whether you have a longstanding tradition, or you plan to start one this year, you can use our location map to find the nearest Braum’s to make you feel right at home.
If you’re looking to fold some more memories into your on-the-road holiday traditions, keep reading for our suggestions on the best games to play while traveling for the holidays.
Road Trip Games
No need to be bored while driving miles; we’ve listed a few games below to not only keep you awake but get you in the holiday spirit.
The A,B,C game.
How to play: Starting with the driver and go around in alphabetical order naming a holiday item. This could be a song, decoration, or even a gift. For example: If the driver says “artificial tree,” the first passenger can call out “blizzard,” and the second passenger might chime in “cookies,” and so on. There are endless categories, so have fun and be creative!
Holiday Tunes 21 Questions
How to play: One person thinks of a holiday song, then everyone else begins to ask questions to figure out the song but can only receive yes or no answers. For instance, let’s say the song is “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree.” Questions could be “Does this song include something green?” or “Is this song sung by John Legend?” (The answers would be yes and no.)
Tune Train
How to play: The game starter sings a line of a holiday song. Just one line. The next person must use the last word of that song to sing a line from a different song. This one can be tricky. Here’s an example: The first player might say “Have yourself a merry little Christmas.” The second person might say “Christmas time is here.” And the third person: “Here comes Santa Claus.”

This year, Braum’s was honored to partner with the Oklahoma Railway Museum for its “Christmas Train” event in which families visited with Santa Claus, sang Christmas carols, read Christmas stories and were treated to goodie bags. Not only that, everyone hopped aboard the Christmas train for a holiday ride.
Hot cocoa and cookies took center stage on the menu that day, so we’re sharing one of our favorite cookie recipes for those who couldn’t make it to the event! Check out our recipe and how-to video below for Santa’s Christmas Sugar Cookies, and whip some up as a family to leave old St. Nick on Christmas Eve. (We have it on good record these really are his favorite.)
Ingredients
1 cup Braum’s Unsalted Butter, softened
1 ¼ cup of sugar
1 Tbsp. Braum’s Whole Milk
1½ tsp. vanilla extract
1 Braum’s Egg
3 cups flour
2 tsp. baking powder
¼ tsp. salt (if using unsalted butter, omit if using salted butter)
Frosting:
½ cup Braum’s Unsalted Butter, softened
3 oz. cream cheese, softened
16 oz. powdered sugar
¼ cup milk
Instructions
Cookies: Preheat oven to 375°F. In a large bowl, cream the butter, sugar, milk, vanilla and egg. Stir in the dry ingredients until combined. Refrigerate the dough for 30 minutes. Once chilled, Roll the dough out to about a ½” thick sheet using a rolling pin and wax paper. After it’s rolled out, cut out your cookies. Combine dough and roll out as needed to use all of the dough. If it starts to get to tacky, chill and continue to roll and cut cookies. Place the cookies on a greased baking sheet and bake for 10 minutes.
Frosting: Beat butter and cream cheese with electric mixer until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar alternately with milk, beginning and ending with sugar and beating at low speed. Add vanilla extract and beat until smooth. Spread over cookies. Top with sprinkles.
Don’t forget the final step! Grab a glass of Braum’s whole milk and plate your cookies to leave Santa during his long night of delivering toys to all the good girls and boys.

But don’t stop with these recipes! Pick up enough pies, cookies, and brownies to please every trick-or-treater.
Rocky Road rocked the world of ice cream. Before imaginative mix-ins were regular features at ice cream parlors, there wasn’t much excitement on the menu. Thanks to Rocky Road, ice cream lovers were inspired to add flavors and textures to basic ice cream flavors.
Unsurprisingly, the history of Rocky Road is a little bumpy and has its share of controversy.
What is Rocky Road Ice Cream?
Rocky Road is a chocolate-based ice cream flavor mixed with chopped almonds and marshmallow pieces. While most Americans are familiar with Rocky Road ice cream, many are unaware that it was originally inspired by a brownie-like dessert also called Rocky Road.
The milk chocolate, cake-like treat can be traced back to Australia. Unsure of what to do with confectionary treats that had gone bad during shipment from Britain, savvy confectioners got creative. The soft candy confections were mixed with chocolate and locally grown nuts. The chocolate flavor covered up the spoiled flavor of the candy while nuts provided a wonderfully crunchy texture. The popular dessert spread back to Britain and eventually the United States.
According to a Mental Floss article that investigates Rocky Road’s origins, the earliest American recipe for Rocky Road is a candy cookbook published in Kansas in 1920. That version includes the rather unusual addition of honey crème whip.
Ice cream is arguably the most popular form of Rocky Road, but it’s inspired dozens of other recipes like Rocky Road brownies, cakes, dessert bars, and much more.
Who Invented Rocky Road Ice Cream?
Rocky Road ice cream has a tie to the most financially dire time in United States history. William Dreyer, of Dreyer’s Ice Cream, is thought to be the original concoctor of Rocky Road. Dreyer, who first began creating ice cream during the Great Depression, thought people could use some cheering up during this difficult time. Partnering with candy maker Joseph Edy, he debuted the first incarnation of the now famous flavor in Oakland, California in 1929.
Dreyer didn’t have state of the art equipment at his fingertips, so he used his wife’s sewing shears to cut marshmallows into small pieces. He also originally used walnuts in place of the almonds now more widely used in Rocky Road recipes.
There are contradictory claims that the recipe came from creamery owner George Fenton. Fenton’s Creamery claims that Dreyer and Edy used Fenton’s idea and served Rocky Road at their own shop. The mystery remains up for debate.
When Did Rocky Road Ice Cream Become Popular?
Rocky Road ice cream was revolutionary because it was one of the first ice cream flavors to be offered other than the three Neapolitan classics: vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry. Shortly after its debut, the flavor spread to other ice cream shops and dairies around the nation.
Since it was the first flavor to incorporate different textures and flavors, it opened a world of possibilities for future ice cream flavors. Singer Weird Al Yankovich famously shared his love of Rocky Road with his parody song “I Love Rocky Road” in 1983.
This golden oldie is still cherished by ice cream fans and widely popular at modern-day ice cream shops.
What Does Rocky Road Taste Like?
The ice cream flavor features a base of smooth, chocolate ice cream. The soft chewiness of sweet marshmallows is contrasted with nutty, crunchy almonds to create a complex texture.
There are variations of Rocky Road ice cream. Some recipes will use marshmallow swirls or different nuts like pecans or peanuts in place of almonds, but traditionalists tend to favor the classic marshmallow pieces and almonds.

Ingredients
1 Braum’s Pound Cake
1 cup blueberries, fresh or frozen
4 tablespoons Braum’s Unsalted Butter
1 cup Braum’s Buttermilk
4 large Braum’s Eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
½ teaspoon allspice
1 lemon for zesting
Instructions

The next day, place cubes into a mixing bowl and combine with blueberries.
Place cake and blueberries into a buttered 9-x-13-inch baking dish. Melt butter and evenly pour over the cake and berries. Allow the butter to absorb into the cake.
In a mixing bowl, combine buttermilk, eggs, vanilla, allspice, and the zest of one lemon. Pour mixture over the cake and berries. Cover the dish and chill for at least 30 minutes in the refrigerator.
Bake the pudding mixture at 350 degrees for 45 minutes to an hour or until the pudding has a golden color and is set. Allow to rest 10 to 15 minutes before serving. Optional: Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Bacon Pasta Primavera
Use your garden veggies in this wonderfully creamy, bacon-filled pasta.
Ingredients
8 slices Braum’s Bacon
½ medium white, red, or yellow onion, chopped
10 asparagus spears, chopped
½ head of broccoli, chopped
1 red or orange bell pepper, chopped
5 tablespoons Braum’s Salted Butter
1 teaspoon minced garlic
1 (16-ounce) package penne pasta
1 ½ – 2 cups Braum’s Heavy Whipping Cream
1 teaspoon lemon zest
½ – 2 cups Parmesan cheese
Pepper to taste
Instructions
Prepare pasta according to package al dente instructions. Reserve one cup of pasta water for use later. Drain and set aside.
Slice bacon into half-inch pieces and cook in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once pieces are browned and crispy, remove from skillet and place on a paper towel-covered plate or platter. Set aside. Reserve about one tablespoon of bacon grease for sautéing vegetables.
In the same skillet, melt two tablespoons of butter on medium-high heat and add onion. Cook until slightly softened and add garlic. Cook for another minute. Add asparagus and broccoli and cook for one to two minutes. Vegetables should retain their crispness. Remove the vegetables from the skillet and set aside on a plate or platter. Add bell pepper and cook for another minute and then transfer to the plate with the other vegetables.
Once the vegetables are removed from the skillet, reduce heat, melt the remaining butter and add heavy cream (up to two cups, depending on how much sauce you want). Bring to a slight simmer and use a wooden spoon or spatula to scrape remaining drippings from the skillet into the sauces. Add up to one cup of shredded parmesan to make it creamier. Add vegetables, pasta, and pasta water back in and gently combine ingredients. Heat thoroughly. Add lemon zest, pepper, and top with parmesan cheese. Serve immediately.

This healthier alternative to traditional yogurt is deliciously tart and tangy. With less sugar and more protein than regular yogurt, it’s a great tasting snack or meal option that’s good for you too!
Braum’s introduces its take on Greek yogurt–available at the Fresh Market and as a fry alternative on Braum’s meal combos.
What is Greek Yogurt?
What makes yogurt Greek? It’s all in the process. Essentially, Greek yogurt is strained yogurt. Regular yogurt and Greek yogurt start out the same–milk is heated to an ideal temperature for fermentation. Bacterial cultures are then added to the milk and the mixture ferments.
During fermentation, bacteria grows and produces lactic acids. This causes the milk to gel, making yogurt. If making Greek yogurt, this mixture is strained to remove liquid whey and lactose. This creates the thick texture.
Beyond texture, Greek yogurt differs from regular yogurt in protein, fat, and carbs. Greek yogurt has nearly twice the amount of protein found in regular yogurt and about half the amount of carbs. Full-fat versions of Greek yogurt are higher in saturated fats compared to regular yogurt.
Health Benefits of Greek Yogurt
As we mentioned, Greek yogurt packs a ton of protein, roughly 12 to 15 grams per recommended serving. This means it will leave you feeling fuller longer than an empty carb-heavy snack. That wallop of protein can help support the strengthening of bones and muscle. All that protein makes it a great pre- and post-workout snack.
Not to be outshined by impressive protein, the probiotics naturally found in Greek yogurt can help support your immune system and aid digestion. The probiotics are the “good bacteria” needed by your body’s digestive system to function properly.
Calcium is another nutrient sufficiently found in Greek yogurt. Nearly 20 percent of your daily recommended value of calcium is in one serving of Greek yogurt. Calcium is needed to help build muscles and support organ function. Calcium is especially important for growing youngsters–since Greek yogurt is easy to sneak into other foods, like fruit smoothies, it’s easy to make sure kids get the calcium they need.
Vitamin B-12 and potassium are also found in Greek yogurt. Potassium can help lower blood pressure and even prevent cramps. B-12 supports brain and DNA functions and is typically found in animal products like meat and fish, but vegetarians can use Greek yogurt as a meatless B-12 source. Over 20 percent of the recommended daily value of B-12 is found in one serving of Greek yogurt.
Greek yogurt is also more acidic than regular yogurt, meaning its nutrients are easier for your body to absorb. Because of its texture and tart flavor, Greek yogurt is a healthy ingredient swap for sour cream and mayonnaise. A healthy swap can help incorporate more vital nutrients into your diet. Try it over a baked sweet potato or top your favorite chili recipe with a spoonful! Blend it into your morning smoothies or have a bowl of Greek yogurt with fresh fruit, nuts, and seeds for a healthy breakfast.
Braum’s High-Quality, Hormone-Free Dairy
Braum’s milk and dairy products are 100 percent rBGH-free. That’s right –no growth hormones or antibiotics. The milk we sell and use to create our dairy products comes from our private dairy herd of cows who are fed alfalfa, cottonseed, barley, and other wholesome grains.
Customize Your Braum’s Combo with Greek Yogurt
Your Braum’s meal is customizable. If you’re watching carbs, swapping fries for a protein-packed Greek yogurt is a great option. If you’re a morning person, swap out your hash browns for Greek yogurt on your breakfast burrito combo. The high protein breakfast will leave you satisfied all morning!
If you don’t want substitutions on your next Braum’s meal combo, stop by the Fresh Market to pick up Braum’s Greek yogurt for healthy breakfast on the go!
You know the standard ice cream flavors. There are the basics like chocolate and vanilla and elevated favorites like Rocky Road. While all flavors are deliciously unique, there’s one ice cream parlor fixture we love for its sweet nostalgia—Butter Brickle.
Butter Brickle is a true golden oldie. Younger generations may not be familiar with the classic flavor, but that doesn’t mean they have to miss out. We’re breaking down everything you want to know about this retro favorite.
The History of Butter Brickle
Before we had the ice cream, we had Butter Brickle candy. The Fenn Bros. Ice Cream and Candy Company in Sioux Falls, South Dakota was a manufacturer that doled out sweet treats as early as 1918. The brand is recognized for the invention of Butter Brickle candy and ice cream flavoring.
Though the Fenn Bros. are credited with inventing Butter Brickle, it originated in Omaha, Nebraska. Omaha’s Blackstone Hotel is thought to be where the ice cream was debuted to the public in the 1920s.
The Fenn Bros. continued manufacturing Butter Brickle candy and flavoring until the 1970s, which is when the company liquidated. The Butter Brickle formula was sold to the company Leaf, Inc., which manufactured Heath Bars. In 1996, Hershey acquired the formula and trademark.

Traditional Butter Brickle is made of small, crunchy pieces of golden-browned toffee. It’s buttery and sweet tasting. If you’re a fan of Heath bars, which are made of toffee covered in a silky chocolate layer, you may love Butter Brickle too!
Butter Brickle tastes incredible in more than just ice cream. Just scan online recipes to see cakes, frosting, pies, cookies, and treat bars inspired by the flavor.
Where Can I Buy Butter Brickle Ice Cream?
Are you a Butter Brickle fanatic craving nostalgia or even a total newbie to the flavor? You’re in luck. Braum’s churns out its version of the beautiful flavor on a regular basis. Braum’s Premium Butter Brickle Ice Cream features delightfully buttery toffee pieces and smooth vanilla flavoring.
If you grab a pint of Braum’s Butter Brickle, take along a few extra fixings to elevate the classic. We suggest putting a scoop or two in a bowl. Drizzle it with warm fudge topping and sprinkle with crushed toffee or Heath bars. Finish with a generous dollop of whipped cream and top with a cherry!

Caramel Delight Cake
This cake fits the ultimate dessert bill–it’s warm, gooey, and topped with chocolate toffee.
Ingredients
1 (15.25 ounce) package German chocolate cake mix with pudding included
1 ¼ cups water
½ cup vegetable oil
3 eggs
Homemade whipped cream (We used the recipe included below)
1 (16 ounce) jar Braum’s Caramel Ice Cream Topping
2 large chocolate toffee candy bars, crushed
Instructions
Mix and bake German chocolate cake mix according to box instructions.
Once the cake has baked, remove from oven and poke holes with the end of a spatula or other utensil.
Pour the jar of caramel topping evenly over the top of the cake. Reserve some of the caramel for topping later. Let the cake cool.
Once cooled, cover the cake with whipped cream topping. Sprinkle with crushed chocolate toffee candy and place in refrigerator until ready to serve.
If desired, drizzle with remaining caramel topping that’s been warmed (use caution if microwaving as jar may become extremely hot).
Serve cake with a scoop of your favorite Braum’s Ice Cream or a glass of Braum’s milk.
Homemade Whipped Cream
Ingredients
1 cup of Braum’s Heavy Whipping Cream
1/4 cup of confectioner’s sugar (or to taste)
1 teaspoon of vanilla
Instructions
Chill your bowl and whisk (or mixer) in the freezer for about 15 to20 minutes.
Once they are very cold to touch, remove them from the freezer. Immediately pour the whipping cream into the bowl and beat on high until stiff peaks are just about to form, about three minutes.
Beat in vanilla, egg nog, and sugar until peaks form. Do not overbeat as this will cause the cream to become lumpy. It is best to use the cream within one day.
Walnut and Pear Stuffing
Is there anything more comforting than a side of crispy, hot stuffing? The walnuts in this dish provide a wonderful crunch!
In a large skillet, brown the sausage, stirring until crumbly. Once cooked, drain and set aside.
After cleaning the skillet, sauté celery and onion in butter over medium-high heat until crisp-tender. Add chopped pears and garlic; sauté until pear is tender. Remove mixture from heat.
Place bread cubes in a large bowl. Stir in sausage, celery mixture, walnuts, sage, and pepper. Pour broth over stuffing while stirring the mixture gently.
Place stuffing in a 9×13 inch lightly-greased or buttered casserole dish. Bake uncovered at 325 degrees for approximately one hour.
Creamy Egg Nog Cupcakes
These rich, egg nog-infused cupcakes are an absolute dream, but be careful! It’s hard not to go back for seconds!
Ingredients
Cupcakes
1 (16 ounce) package pound cake mix
1 ¼ cups Braum’s Egg Nog
2 large eggs
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Frosting
1/2 cup Braum’s butter, softened
3 ounces cream cheese, softened
4 cups powdered sugar
1/4 cup Braum’s Egg Nog
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Combine pound cake mix, egg nog, eggs, nutmeg, and vanilla extract with a mixer at low speed. Once well-combined, increase the mixer’s speed to medium and beat for two minutes.
Place baking cups into muffin tins and spoon batter into cups.
Bake for 18 to 20 minutes. To test if it is done, insert a tooth pick in the center of a cupcake. If it comes out clean, the cupcakes are done. Transfer to wire rack to cool completely before frosting.
To make the frosting, beat the butter and cream cheese with a mixer until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar and egg nog, alternating between the two. Begin and end with adding sugar. Beat at low speed.
Add nutmeg and vanilla extract and beat until smooth. Spread over completely cooled cupcakes with a piping bag or with a frosting knife. Decorate with a sprinkle of nutmeg or colored sugar.

We asked our fans to share first job memories at Braum’s… and they delivered!
Many had fond memories from their crew member years (and some are still working with us)! Reading your stories warmed our hearts–and made us hungry for ice cream. Some of you perfected the preparation of a hot fudge sundae, others had fun interacting with customers over the counter.
One common theme is the friendships formed between team members (and even a few future marriages)! Many credited managers for instilling a strong work ethic and loved their Braum’s experience.
Commemorate good times and hard work with a scoop of your favorite ice cream flavor or enjoy a chicken strip meal for old time’s sake. Thanks for the dedication to our customers!
Here are a few of our favorite first job stories.
“My first job experience, at the Joplin, MO Braum’s, was back in 2014 when I was first hired on… this was my very first job and when I reported in for my first day, I was beyond scared! After orientation I got a lot of hands on experience and at first I was called a turtle because of how slow I moved, and then something clicked and I became a superstar on the cone line and register four… After about a year and a half, I was promoted to night shift supervisor.
Since then, I started doing a lot of the training for the new kids, from how to make single dip cones all the way to running the grill. I have been able to watch them grow as people and not just as my employees! During all this time, I became friends with my co-workers and customers. Some of the customers come in just to have me serve them. I have LOVED every moment that I have worked for Braum’s and I am glad that I am still with them and my future goal with Braum’s is to become a trainer! I will always recommend to friends and relatives to have their kids apply for Braum’s as their first job the same way I did three years ago! Thank you for all the opportunities that you all have given me!”

My first job was at Braum’s in Purcell, OK. I was seventeen and a senior in high school. I can still remember how nervous I was in the interview. For the first few months, they had me cleaning in the lobby. After a while, I moved to working the back drive-thru. Within a year, I could work anywhere in the store, but the back drive-thru will always be my favorite spot. I got to know a lot of the regular customers; I really enjoyed getting to know them, and their orders!
My general manager was always so understanding and worked around my school schedule. I worked there all the way through college and even got a scholarship from Braum’s to help with a part of my tuition. Now as a teacher, I credit my manager with instilling such a good work ethic in me. I could probably call her even now for a job!”

“I was only looking for a part time job when I was 16 and still in high school. I just wanted a little bit of spending money and it eventually turned into a career. I went full-time after I finished high school.
By the time I turned 21, I became a shift manager and I have been a shift manager for three years. I’ve been at Braum’s for seven years and I love it. You get paid decently and get to meet really cool customers that turn into our regular customers. I’m always happy to see their faces when they come in that door.”

“I met my husband by working at Braum’s! I started working there the summer before my senior year in high school and he had been working there for a year or so. Five years later we got married! 12 years and three kids later and we still love Braum’s!

“I got my first job at Braum’s in 2008 when I was just 14. It was supposed to be just a summer job, but little did I know that a summer job would turn into a five-year job! It taught me a lot about the working world and I’m forever grateful for the experience.
I miss my regular customers a lot. There was a man that came in every Sunday just so I could make him a Butterfinger mix. My other favorites to make were cherry limeades and ice cream sodas. I still make sodas at home to this day!”

“My first job was at Braum’s, it started over two years ago on May 15, 2015, the day after I turned 16. It was in Chickasha, Oklahoma. It was the BEST first job ever. All my managers were amazing…
My best memory of working at Braum’s was probably when we got a 100% on one of the BOGO Tuesdays when another store challenged us. We were all so helpful of each other and I had a blast.”
Summertime always has us dreaming of the good old days. Summers off from school, swimming at the pool, and eating cold ice cream on a hot day are a few of our favorite memories. We also remember our first summer jobs!
Generations of wonderful team members have served up soft serve and smiles at Braum’s for their first jobs! Many Braum’s employees worked at our stores through high school and college. We’ve also had employees start life-long careers with us!
Our employees, both past and present, have worked hard to provide delicious treats to our customers. We love hearing how they’ve perfected their ice cream scooping or concocted the perfect shake, all while making memories with co-workers and customers!
Did you have a first job at Braum’s? We’d love to hear your memories! Fill out the form below and share your story!
Going out with family and friends for ice cream is an American tradition. For more than a century, one of the sweetest treats you can enjoy has been an ice cream sundae.
It’s believed ice cream sundaes got their start in American drug stores and soda fountains, although there’s not a definitive answer as to where they originated. Several small towns claim to be the home of the first sundae, so the title is up for debate. President Theodore Roosevelt banned ice cream sodas on Sundays, so fountain owners got around the law by serving ice cream with syrup but without soda. Customers started to request the “Sunday” and it became a part of the menu. It’s been suggested that “sundae” became the spelling to not offend the Sabbath and because it was a treat available every day of the week.
While we may not know where the ice cream sundae originated, we do know for certain what makes up a perfect ice cream sundae.
The Braum’s Way
At Braum’s, the perfect sundae starts with a cake or brownie in the bottom of the bowl. It’s especially yummy if the cake, like our Molten Lava Cake, is warm.
On top of the cake or brownie, we add two scoops of our Premium Ice Cream. Did you know that you can swap out the ice cream in your sundae for any of our Old Fashioned Premium Ice Cream flavors? So if our Molten Lava Sundae is calling your name but you just have to have Premium Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, you can order a Molten Lava Sundae and simply substitute the ice cream! Also, the two scoops don’t have to be the same flavor. Try a new flavor like Premium Circus Cookie and pair it with your old favorite, Rocky Road.
After the ice cream, we add a sweet topping like hot fudge, caramel, marshmallow topping, or strawberry sauce.
To add a little crunch and texture to your sundae, we add nuts on the sweet topping.
Of course, no ice cream sundae is complete without whipped cream and a cherry on top.
We have four new sundaes that feature our latest ice cream flavor additions: Circus Animal Cookie Sundae, Cool Mint Cookie, Sea Salt Caramel Cashew Sundae, and Molten Lava Cake.
Because every sundae is made to order, you can request to leave off any of the toppings you may not enjoy. A perfect sundae is the one that’s perfect for you. And all of Braum’s sundaes are available with a single scoop of ice cream if you’d like a smaller sweet treat.
Looking for something less creamy and more tart? If refreshing fruity drinks are the summer treat you crave, learn how Braum’s crafts the perfect limeade.
